Since 2003, I/O users have relied on Beckhoff’s EtherCAT Terminals for their performance, modularity, scalability, and user-friendliness. With the introduction of the new ED series terminals, the entire EtherCAT I/O portfolio receives a new housing format and expanded functionality while retaining full compatibility with existing Beckhoff hardware. Internally, the ED series terminals offer the same high performance, expansive functionality, and built-in diagnostics capabilities offered by all EtherCAT devices.

The DIN rail mounted ED series EtherCAT Terminals are characterized by a modernized design, tool-free installation via push-in wiring connections, and additional app-based diagnostics via a scannable product data matrix. This systematic advancement of the distributed I/O system increases signal acquisition efficiency and, like the original Bus Terminals and EtherCAT Terminals, sets a new standard for the future.

This is achieved by the flexible hardware integration options offered by ED terminals, which help ensure future viability and investment protection. Simplified installation and wiring speeds up commissioning and maintenance for all kinds of machines and equipment. As troubleshooting is simplified, downtime is minimized, and overall system availability is increased.

Additionally, the ED terminals enable easy traceability for quality assurance and spare parts management. Overall, these new IP20-rated EtherCAT Terminals reduce system costs without compromising I/O functionality or performance.
