Sometimes a production line needs extra support or functions when handling products. Not all general conveyance equipment can perform unique product handling movements that manual labor can do. Normally, this support or special function comes in the form of a custom conveyor device to automate the product handling process. Pack Air Inc. recently took on a new challenge to design and manufacture an automated specialty Tote Dumper device to handle 90 pounds of bulk product. Keep on reading to see how it functions.
Filled totes that are 24” length, 16” width, and 16” height travel on a short motor driven roller (MDR) conveyor which feeds into the Tote Dumper’s guard structure and lifting zone. The MDR conveying surface allows for the totes to easily zero pressure accumulate on the production line when the Tote Dumper is active. However, the lifting zone rollers incorporate a combination of friction surfaced sleeves and pop-up blade to precisely stop the tote for accurate dumping. Once the Dumper finishes its cycle, the tote then travels into a Right Angle Pop-up Transfer conveyor to move onto the next process.
The servo-driven Tote Dumping arm was assembled between two steel structure posts that contained a pivot shaft between them. A large steel dead plate on the side and four fork-like plates, two above and two below the tote, were attached to the pivot shaft. This allowed for the tote to be reliably contained when the dumping motion occurs. A built in cross bar connecting the top fork-like plates provide added tote stability when the device becomes active.
This Tote Dumper is capable of…
· creating less than 80 decibels when running
· handling 4 full totes per minute
· operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year
· supporting full totes weighing 90 pounds max
